Description

1 rare Meiji 6 model (1873) chokunin level Imperial Diplomatic sword. This rare sword would make an important addition to any collection.

This sword has the kiri (paulownia imperialis tree) emblem with a 5-7-5 bud pattern. This bud pattern shows that this sword was carried by chokunin officials. This is the higher rank--chokunin officials were appointed by the Emperor himself. The lower sonin officials held lower Emperor-approved positions. The kiri are located on the pommel, the guard, and on the blade.

This sword has a fine, woven wire grip. The handle is gold-gilted. The nickel-plated blade has a filegreed pattern. The saya is perfect black-lacquered wood with gold-plated fittings.

Details

Condition:

The blade is perfectly straight. The wire handle wrap is all intact. A couple of the wires have a little play is all. The etched blade has occasional staining from past light oxidation. The scabbard has what looks like a repair just above the drag fitting. We suggest handling the scabbard tip area carefully--just like one would with any antique.
