A Bulgarian Royal Air Force pilot’s badge from the Kingdom of Bulgaria period, circa 1935–1940.
The badge has a richly layered design: a royal crown at the top, a silvered laurel and oak wreath, a gilt flying eagle over a blue enamel sunburst background, and a red enamel shield with the Bulgarian lion at the lower part. The reverse has a screw-back fastening with retaining plate. The reverse elements are marked in Cyrillic with the Sofia maker’s mark of the Strahil Miloshev workshop and the number “3-23-89”.
Similar examples are described as Bulgarian Air Force pilot’s badges of the Kingdom period, often dated circa 1935–1940 or 1921–1943 issue. The design is associated with the pre-war and Second World War period Bulgarian royal aviation insignia.
