decorative 19th-century opaline glass vase of beaker form, raised on a spreading circular foot.
The vase is made in opaque white opaline glass and decorated with hand-painted floral garlands, blue oval reserves and gilt ornament. The white ground is enriched with polychrome enamel decoration and gilded borders, creating a refined contrast between the soft opaline surface, blue details and gold highlights.
Opaline glass was especially popular in the 19th century and was produced in France, Bohemia and other European centres. Its milky white surface was often decorated with enamel painting, gilding and coloured reserves, making such pieces suitable for elegant table and interior display.
