An attractive decorative dagger with a slender pointed steel blade, richly ornamented metal hilt and matching scabbard.
The straight blade features longitudinal fullers and a narrow, tapering point. The metal hilt is decorated with elaborate floral scrollwork, raised bands and geometric patterns. Its small curved crossguard and flared pommel complete the distinctive design.
The matching metal scabbard is richly decorated with scrolling foliage, floral motifs and a central heraldic-style emblem with crossed elements beneath a crown-like ornament. It terminates in a rounded finial.
The dagger displays an attractive aged brass-coloured patina, with contrasting polished and darkened areas on the steel blade.
Its ornate appearance makes it an interesting example of decorative edged weapons in a historical European style. The exact country of manufacture and period have not been established.
