Description

Russian Silver Stopka / Charka, Kostroma, Russia, 1769–1813, 18th–Early 19th Century.

A Russian silver stopka, or charka, made in Kostroma and dated to the period 1769–1813. The vessel is of tapering cylindrical form and is decorated with finely engraved and chased ornament.

The body is enriched with bold scrolling decoration and cartouches enclosing stylized birds and foliate motifs. The interior is gilt, a traditional feature of fine Russian silver drinking vessels.
