Russian Oriental Kindjal-Type Dagger with Silver Mounts, Russian Empire, St. Petersburg, late 19th century.
A fine Russian Oriental kindjal-type dagger, produced in the Russian Empire in the late 19th century. The piece combines the distinctive Caucasian and Oriental dagger form with refined Russian silver-mounted workmanship.
The dagger has a broad double-edged steel blade and a dark grip, probably made of wood or horn, set with decorative metal studs. The compact and powerful form reflects the traditional kindjal type, while the silver-mounted scabbard gives the object a distinctly decorative and prestigious character.
The black leather-covered scabbard is fitted with silver mounts richly decorated with engraved floral ornament, niello-style details and gilded accents. A gilded suspension band with geometric decoration adds a particularly elegant detail to the overall design.
The silver mounts bear St. Petersburg marks, confirming Russian Imperial silver workmanship.
