A Cast Iron Sculpture of Kirghiz on Horseback, Early 20th Century, Kusa, Russia. Signed by V. Torohin. Vasily Fedorovich Torokin, born in Kaslinsky, Ekaterinburg District, worked at the Kusinsky Ironworks from 1859. Starting as a sand preparation worker, he advanced to mold maker and sculptor. A self-taught artist, he studied sculpture under M.D. Kanaev and N.R. Bakh. Torokin created models inspired by sculptors like P.K. Klodt and N.I. Liberikh and developed original iron casting designs.
