Description

Imperial German Naval Officer’s Sword with Damascus Blade

Maker: WKC (Weyersberg, Kirschbaum & Co.), Solingen
Period: Circa 1900–1914

A superb Imperial German naval officer’s sword (Kaiserliche Marine pattern) featuring a Damascus steel blade of exceptional quality, finely etched with floral scrolls, naval motifs, and crowned anchor emblems on both sides. The blade shows a beautiful watered pattern typical of hand-forged Damascus steel, indicative of a deluxe private-purchase officer’s weapon.

The ricasso is clearly stamped with the WKC Solingen trademark — the knight’s head and king’s head — one of Solingen’s most respected cutlers.

The hilt is of gilded brass, richly decorated with acanthus leaves, oak branches, and the Imperial crown over fouled anchor in relief. The lion’s head pommel has inset red glass “eyes,” and the white grip is bound with gilt wire. The original officer’s bullion portépée is still attached.

The sword retains its black-lacquered metal scabbard with gilt brass fittings and two suspension rings, showing only light wear.

Dimensions:

Overall length: 98 cm

Blade length: 81,4 cm

Blade width at ricasso: 2.2 cm

Remarks:

A high-grade Imperial German naval officer’s presentation sword, manufactured by WKC, Solingen, with a Damascus steel blade — a rare and desirable variant carried by senior officers of the Kaiserliche Marine during the reign of Kaiser Wilhelm II
